No Comments How to name your blog
Naming your blog is a big moment as a blog writer. It is important that you select something that is attention getting and memorable, because it is often one of the first things that readers see, and it is certainly what they will remember you by. Focus on selecting a name that is memorable, representative, and completely unique.
First of all, remember that a blog is only successful if it draws readership; this means it has to be searchable and consistent. Try to include a keyword phrase in the title that is likely to be entered into a search engine. Google Adsense can be used to generate a list of suggested keywords. For example, if your blog will be about working from home, you might want to include the acronym WAHM, or the words work at home somewhere in the title. This is also why it is important to select a name and stick to it. If you change your blog name, you may lose readers because they can no longer find you. Make sure that you select a name that you can live with, or you may find it hard to live with down the road.

In order to select a really great name that you will be pleased with long term, try to create something representative and totally original. Get away from overused blog title phrases like “_________101″, “Confessions of _______” and “Tales of a__________”. Instead, find a way to draw readers in, using your own voice. Similarly, pick something thats not too wordy, and that’s easy to remember. A great way to do this is to use a subtitle. For example, if you are talking about the struggles of being married to a serious gamer you could have a blog named “The Gamer’s Widow: Coping with A Gamer Husband.”
Finally, make sure your blog title, and your domain name are the same. This will make your blog easier to locate. Before officially naming your blog, check and make sure that the domain name is available. For example, if using “The Gamer’s Widow” title, you would check to make sure http://www.thegamer’swidow.com or http://gamerswidow.com was available before naming your blog. A free domain name search can be performed at http://instantdomainsearch.com/. Failure to do so may cause some loss of readership, because they simply can’t easily find you, or get back to your site.
